The idea came from the founder of Semofa who struggled to support family and friends back home while working full-time as most transfer merchants were far away and required time taken out of his day in order to complete.

The founder wanted to regularly send a monthly allowance to his grandmother from an app on his phone without having to find and visit a merchant in the city.
